Trust Apple to fix your devices

As a lover of technology and video games I always take great care when handling my iPhone or when taking a brand new game out of the box for the first time. I am one of those individuals who orders the case and screen protector weeks before the actual device arrives. (Comment down below if you're one those people.)

A few weeks ago I noticed that something was wrong with my iPhone 5c. I didn't know what it was at first but after a while it hit me, my external speaker stopped working. The reason why I did not identify the problem straight away was I usually use my headphones when I'm writing or doing some things around the house. When my headphones were plugged in I heard everything absolutely fine and when I plugged them out there was nothing but a complete silence.

What do people do when they have a problem in 2014? They Google it. I sort of began to panic at this point because I had never encountered a problem with an iPhone or an Apple product before. I decided to scroll through some Apple forums in order to find a solution to my problem. But the solutions that some people recommended were just ridiculous. One person claimed that if you hit the bottom corner of the phone (where the external speaker was located) of off a hard surface it would fix the problem. "Oh yeah. The person who who buys his iPhone case in advance is going to smash it of off his desk." I don't think so.

So I then decided it was time to call Apple Care. When I called Apple care I was immediately welcomed by a strange voice automated operator. It asked me questions like "Give me the IMEI number of your device." and "What is the problem with your device?" I answered all of those questions and within seconds I was transferred to a living, breathing, human being named Andrew. Andrew one of the people who resolves problems like mine everyday was very helpful. He sent me out a link which then performed a diagnostics scan on my device and right away he knew that there was a problem with my external speaker. After I gave him my home address and email I was told that in two to five business days I would receive a package which I would then place my broken iPhone 5c into. He also told me that since my iPhone had a warranty the repair would be absolutely free and that they will send out a brand new iPhone after they received the broken unit.

For those of you out there who are still a bit wary about sending your iPhone to Apple and would prefer to go to your local repair store. Don't be. Apple has an incredible service for people like you and me and if I ever have another problem with an Apple device (which is like one in a million) Apple will be the first group that I will contact.

Apple will stop iPhone 5c production in 2015

When the iPhone 5c first hit the market back in late 2013 it did not receive a warm welcome like all previous generation iPhones had before. It stood in the shadow of it's superior twin brother the iPhone 5s and was often referred to as the "cheap" iPhone, even though there was about a $100 difference between the two models. But many factors have contributed in making people believe that the 5c was a knock off version of the 5s.

The first one being it was made of plastic and not aluminium like the 5s. When people buy Apple's products they expect the product to feel like it's worth a thousand bucks. More than likely the first two words which are going to pop into your head when thinking of Apple are quality and exclusivity and hearing the word plastic or even using it when describing an Apple product is absolutely absurd.

The second factor which contributed to that cheap state of mind was the 5c did not feature Touch ID, a fingerprint scanner which had been implemented into the iPhone 5s. Many people saw this as a downgrade and the whole point of picking up a new iPhone every year is to benefit from the new features which the new device has to offer.

The third and fourth factors which led people to believe that the iPhone 5c was a joke were, the 5c featured an A6 chip. A chip which had already been living inside the iPhone 5 for a full year. The 5s on the other hand came with a shiny A7 chip with 64-bit architecture and an M7 motion co-processor. A lot of casual gamers and speed freaks viewed the iPhone 5s as an absolute necessity and would not give the 5c a second look.

Apple led a whole marketing campaign for the iPhone 5c claiming it was "For the colorful." It appealed to a few people until they received the actual device. Some people claimed that the colors looked washed out and not as vibrant as Apple said they would be. Which is why the blue and white versions of the device were proven in being the most popular color options which Apple had to offer.

I personally fell in love with the 5c when I picked it up last month. I've been using the device as my daily driver ever since and I can honestly say that all of the accusations about the iPhone 5c feeling cheap were way off. Which is why it's sad for me to say, according to Taiwan's Industrial and Commercial Times, Apple will be stopping the production of the iPhone 5c sometime in 2015. This is probably being done in order to keep the 5s and the current generation iPhone 6 and the 6 plus alive when the iPhone 6s comes out in 2015.

I will be picking up the iPhone 6s next year, but for those of you who are on the border whether to pick up the 5c for yourself or for a loved one, don't hesitate. It's a great device overall and ios 8 runs incredibly smooth on the device.
